Why It Might Be Nonsense
The clean part is only the r to infinity limit. For finite r the fixed point is near 1/φ but not equal to it. And I still cannot show this fixed point is the reason φ turns up in the side ratios of the 4-cycle and 8-cycle plots, which is the part I actually care about.
